Home based business owners have a horrible habit of lying to ourselves about our business. In this article I’ll go over the little lies we all tell ourselves and how to get real and start seeing more success.

Lie 1: My product/ business will pretty much sell it’s self

There isn’t a product or a business out there that is good enough to sell it’s self without any marketing. Let’s be real, some MLM products are just plain stupid, some are ok and some are great and guess what: you can get rich marketing any one of them!

Your product can be the greatest in all of MLM but if you’re not working for it it won’t work for you… period.

The same can be said for your opportunity. Just because you think it’s the greatest way to make money from home out there doesn’t mean people are going to be banging down your door begging to sign up. No matter how great your business is it’s gonna take some effort on your part.

Lie 2: So and So probably doesn’t work that much

If you’re making money in a network marketing business… you’re gonna be working hard! People tend to look at the top earners in their companies and for some strange reason believe that they don’t work that hard or they “just got lucky.”

They didn’t just get lucky, they set and goal and worked hard to get there. No matter what they say. Success in this industry never comes without work. Look at the top earners in your company as examples of what can happen when you work hard and set a goal and stop thinking they just got a lucky break.

Lie 3: I don’t have to improve myself

Everyone needs to do little things every month, every week and every day to improve themselves. Nobody is outside of this. I’m not saying there is anything wrong with you… but there is always room for improvement and if you’re not working on yourself your business isn’t going to grow. At least not at the rate you want it to.

Lie 4: People won’t say “no” to me

Let me be blunt. You’re going to hear “no” a lot! Hearing the word no doesn’t mean that your business isn’t good or your product stinks it just means that the person you’re talking to isn’t interested. Anyone who has had any kind of success in a home based business has heard the word no a ton. Get use to it, embrace it even. It has nothing to do with you it’s just the nature of the beast.

Lie 5: I’ll be quitting my job next month

There is no such thing as overnight success. I’m not saying that you can’t speed the process along but the fact of the matter is that it’s going to take a while to see huge success. So don’t go telling your co-workers, your spouse and especially your boss that you’ll be leaving before you’ve even got your first check. It’s just best for everyone.

It’s awesome to shoot for greatness. Just don’t make your goals so high that when you don’t meet them you get discouraged and want to quit.

Lie 6: My business will build it’s self

This is a lot like the first lie but it’s worth saying again… no business will 100% build it’s self. Sure there are ways you can automate your business and take a bit off your shoulders but it IS going to require some work on your part. Don’t let anyone tell you different.

Lie 7: My business doesn’t need and structure

Just because your home based business isn’t a job doesn’t mean it doesn’t need structure. You can’t go weeks or even days upon days without working your business and you can work 30 hours one week and 3 the next.

Your home based business needs some sort of structure if it’s really going to work for you. Of course the beauty of working from home is you can fit that schedule around your life and the life of your family just don’t get too loosey goosey with it.

Stop lying to yourself and start getting real. I promise that when you do you’re business will be much better for it.

There are a lot of myths and misconceptions when it comes to network marketing or MLM. This article is meant to dispel these myths and give you the real deal about network marketing.

Myth: Multi Level Marketing is the same thing as a pyramid scheme

Fact: A pyramid scheme and MLM are really very different. A main difference is that a pyramid scheme won’t have any real product to promote. A legitimate and legal network marketing company will always have a viable product or service to promote. Yes, we do get compensated for bringing new people into the business but that isn’t our main job.

Pyramid schemes are illegal and wrong. Multi level marketing is a legitimate and totally legal business format.

Myth: MLM is designed for only the people at the top to succeed while the people at the bottom work but never get rich

Fact: This is going back to the whole pyramid vs. a legitimate multi level marketing company. While it’s no secret that if you build a big team you’ll make big money. A network marketing company is designed so that everyone has the ability to succeed and get rich no matter when they join the business.

Myth: If it costs money up front it’s not legit

Fact: Jobs are free but businesses always cost money. There isn’t a business in America that you can start for free. However, while traditional businesses cost thousands and hundreds of thousands to start a traditional network marketing company only costs hundreds.

Myth: You can get rich without doing any actual work, just sign up and cash the checks

Fact: You can’t get rich in any legal business without putting in some time and effort. So anything that promises you riches without effort is probably a scammer. Network marketing has a ton of rewards but it will take some effort on your part.

Myth: MLM is much different than a traditional business

Fact: In actuality MLM is really not much different than running a traditional business. The only differences really are that you can work from home and you get paid on the efforts of yourself as where as others. Most other types of businesses only pay you on what you do. In MLM if you build a large successful team you will help share in their rewards as well!

Truly one of the greatest perks of working at home is the ability to go on vacation anytime you want. You can stay as long as you want and have the money to do whatever you want. The only draw back however, is that while you’re on your fun, relaxing vacation you can’t effectively work on your business. Here are my top 4 tips for building your home based business while on an awesome vacation. By the way… none of these will feel like work!

1. Update Your Blog

Your home based business blog should be a good mix of business related material with a little bit of your personal life thrown in. If you already have quite a few faithful subscribers all it will take is a new post or two about how much fun you’re having on vacation (pictures are a big bonus) to peak some serious interest. Bonus points if the vacation you’re taking isn’t during the summer or other prime vacation months.

Imagine someone sitting in their office looking at pictures of you and your family on an awesome sunny vacation. It’s great for business!

2. Use Social Networking Sites

Much like your blog social networking sites like Myspace, Twitter, and face book allow you to reach out to tons of people at one time. Instead of spamming and constantly posting annoying ads on your social networking sites why not update them with pictures or stories of how much fun you’re having? Trust me it will make your friends jealous and some of them are going to ask more about your business.

3. Send Out An Email To Your List

If you have a pretty large email list then sending out a big bulk email alerting them that you’ll be on vacation for the next , week, two weeks or month will be sure to peak a ton of interest. Don’t send out the email to brag. Just let them know that you may not be available for a while since you’re in (insert awesome vacation spot). It’ll get their attention for sure.

4. Shoot Some Video For The Web

Video for the web doesn’t have to be a highly produced scripted thing. Grab your camcorder or digital camera and short a few short videos about your vacation to post on Youtube and other online sources. Try to keep them short and sweet and make sure your background looks good (like not in your hotel room) at the beach, by the pool, on the ski slopes or in front of a landmark are all good ideas!

Those are the top 4 tips for building your home based business while on vacation. So what are you still doing here? Get out there and have some fun!

When you’re working from home managing your time more effectively is extremely important. If you’re not able to manage your time properly you’re going to end up wasting a lot of time and more importantly a whole lot of money. Here are my top 3 tips for managing your time effectively when you’re trying to build a home based business.

1. Be Organized

Organization can make a gigantic difference when it comes to managing your time. If you only have 2 hours that day to work on your business you don’t want to waste 30 minutes of that time trying to get your phone numbers organized or trying to find something you misplaces. Try to have everything organized and ready so that when you’re ready to work you can get right down to business. By spending a little time here and there to get things more organized you can save a whole lot more time when it’s actually time to call prospects or return emails.

2. Make A List

Making a list is perhaps the easiest way to make sure you get the most out of your work time. However, it’s something that so few people actually do. When you first sit down to get to work take a couple of minutes to write out everything you want to get accomplished for your business that day. When you have a list to visually look at you’ll get more done and be more focused. Plus, every time you get to scratch something off that list you’ll get a sense of accomplishment.

3. Limit Interruptions

If you really want to get the most out of your work time you’re going to need to limit the amount of interruptions that happen every hour. That meals switching off your IM’s if you’re on your computer. Turning off your cell phone (if you have a business line, so that only business related calls can reach you at this time), and letting everyone in the house know that you’re working and don’t want to be disturbed.

Obviously if you have small children this might not be possible but if you have older kids, a spouse or a roomate this can be extremely helpful. Bottom line, when you’re working you’re WORKING don’t go surf the web or check your email. Keep all of that stuff until after you’re done working for the day.

If you follow these three tips you’ll be able to manage your time better and build a better business faster!
